Cultural Content.
As FLES teachers, we know that language instruction is much more meaningful when we can tie it to a place and locate it within a culture. We therefore infuse our curriculum with information and experiences from target cultures, using them as a platform for our language standards. When we "visit" these places with our students, we captivate their curiosity and engage their full participation in the learning process. By teaching cultural content, we bring the language to life for our students.
Our Target Cultures.
Because French is such a widely spoken language, we group our target cultures by region. Each grade level learns about a different region of "la Francophonie" (the French-speaking word).
